estacion-pasaia_cHistory, area description, interest of measured parameters

The Meteorological-Ocean (MO) station of Pasaia was the first to be installed in 2001 as a pilot initiative of what today is known as the Basque Country Meteorological-Ocean Network. The MO station of Pasaia is located at the mouth of the Bay of Pasaia on a signal post of a bedrock shoal called Bancha del Este.

This is a very interesting location from a meteorological point of view, i.e. the sharp relief of the coastline and terrain of nearby valleys in combination with a narrow port entrance surrounded by cliffs, makes breezes (generated by the difference between sea surface and land temperatures during the night/day cycle) particularly frequent not only in the summer.
